What Age Do Dogs Stop Going in Heat
From smooth-coated chihuahuas to miniature pinschers, there are some dog breeds that retain their puppy features as they age.
"Some dogs change significantly as they get older, changing from a big ball of fluff to elegant adults. However, there are also certain breeds of dog that retain their puppy cuteness throughout their life, remaining small in size and curious in character," Bill Lambert, head of health and welfare at the Kennel Club tells Country Living.
"Of course, any dog's behaviour depends on its training, socialisation and individual personality and every dog gets older in individual ways."
Take a look at the puppy-like breeds below...
1. Smooth Coated Chihuahua

"The smallest breed in the world, Chihuahuas take their name from the Mexican state where they were extremely popular in the late 19th century. They are still popular across the globe, often appearing in films and also alongside their celebrity owners. Despite their size, Chihuahuas are bold and confident, with lots of personality in a small frame," Bill says.
2. Italian Greyhound

"Another member of the Toy group, Italian Greyhounds date back to ancient Egypt and the Roman Empire, where dogs similar to Italian Greyhounds can be seen on tombs from these periods. These elegant dogs keep their fine bone structure and 'puppy dog eyes' throughout their life."
3. Miniature Pinscher

"A mini version of the Pinscher, the Miniature Pinscher is an active German breed, originally trained to keep houses free of rats and other rodents. Over the years the breed has become more of a family companion than predator, but they remain inquisitive and active.
"Their small frame and calm temperament makes them a suitable breed for smaller living spaces, as long as they get their daily exercise."
4. Jack Russell Terrier

"A popular family dog, happy and bouncy Jack Russell Terriers were given official recognition by the Kennel Club in 2016. They are known for their energy and mischievous nature originating from their terrier roots. Thanks to their relentless energy, scruffy looks and small size, Jack Russell Terriers can often be mistaken for puppies," Bill adds.
5. Lancashire Heeler
RACHEL OATES
"Belonging to the Pastoral group, Lancashire Heeler ancestors include Welsh Corgi and the Manchester Terrier. It was previously known as Ormskirk Heeler, used to herd cattle to markets in the Welsh area of Ormskirk. Lancashire heelers are intelligent and loyal dogs with short legs but big heart who make a perfect family dog."
